The Foundation for Young Australians in conjunction with the Inspire Foundation have released a report titled "The Role of Technology in Engaging Disengaged Youth". The report looks at the ways that innovative information and communication technology are currently being used in the vocational education and training (VET) sector in Australia. Research indicates that disadvantaged young people in the VET sector are at risk of dropping out, and this report looks at the ways that Information and Communications Technology can both engage young people, and improve their learning outcomes.

Our good friends at YSAS in Victoria recently let us know about a report they were involved in, titled "Social Contexts of Substance Use for Vulnerable 13-15 year olds in Melbourne". This comprehensive report contains the voices of young people engaged in alcohol and drug treatment services in Victoria. The young people explain the meaning of their substance use and the context in which their substance use occurs. Not surprisingly, many of the young people describe family backgrounds including significant substance use, and the substance use was only one part of many other interlinked problems.
