A HANGOVER AND A ONE-NIGHT STAND

Youth Studies Australia have published a research report which looked at young women's experiences of binge drinking and risky sexual behaviour.  The report focused on young women at university, and unsurprisingly found high rates of binge drinking.  Of the sample, 23% reported four or more occasions of heavy drinking per month.  The study also found that alcohol use was associated with "negative" sexual behaviours, with more frequent or heavier alcohol consumption associated with increased chances of engaging in risky sexual activity.

NEW SERVICE FOR PEOPLE ON OPIATE TREATMENT

A new service has been established to support people on pharmacotherapy (like methadone or buprenorphine) for opiate dependence.   QPAMS (Queensland Pharmacotherapy Advocacy Mediation and Support Service) is a project of QuIVAA (Queensland Intravenous AIDS Association), a user-based organisation with a long history of supporting people who use illicit drugs.   QPAMS aims to support people on methadone or buprenorphine, who may have concerns or complaints regarding their treatment.   Whether it's an issue with the pharmacy, or a query about a denied take away request, QPAMS aims to provide advocacy and mediation in order to resolve disputes, and ensure that people are able to maintain their treatment.

QPAMS is open Mon - Fri, 10.30am - 3.30pm, and can be contacted on 1800 175 889.
