The Victorian Dual Diagnosis Initiative have produced a number of useful resources as a part of the "Our Healing Ways" project, focused on enhancing the capacity of Aboriginal workers who are addressing mental health and alcohol and other drug issues. The third resource they have developed is titled "Supervision: A culturally appropriate model for Aboriginal workers" and it contains a range of useful information including a culturally appropriate definition of supervision, an overview of the supervisory relationship, supervision agreements as well as guidelines for working through complex issues. The guide also contains a comprehensive list of resources which workers and supervisors can draw on.

The UK based Substance Misuse Skills Consortium website is designed to assist workers in all aspects of alcohol and drug treatment work, from engagement through to exiting clients. The site breaks information down into the particular phase of treatment and contains links to key resources from around the world. The site is constantly being updated with the latest research and insights into good practice so it's worth saving this one to your bookmarks.

We are very excited to announce the launch of Dovetail's "An Introduction to Youth AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs)". This self-paced online educational program is designed for workers who are new to youth AOD work and includes an overview of key terminology, state and federal policies, practice approaches and some information on key sources of information and resources. We'd love to get your feedback or suggestions to improve the package, so please get in touch if you'd like to have some input. Also, we'll be developing more of these short online training package in future. If you've got ideas for future packages, let us know!

The National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre (NCPIC) are holding their second conference in Brisbane on September 20 and 21, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The conference will look at cannabis use and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, school-based approaches to preventing cannabis use, synthetic cannabinoids and much more.

InSight (formerly known as ADTRU) have released their program of seminars and training for the second half of 2012. A number of training events will be of interest to Dovetail subscribers, including the Hot House's "Working with Young People and Drug Use", "Relapse Prevention and Management", "Indigenous Risk Impact Screen and Brief Intervention" and "Introduction to Motivational interviewing". All training workshops are held in Brisbane at the Biala Building, and they are free to Queensland Health staff, but cost around $100-$150 (depending on course length) for people outside of Queensland Health.

The Australian Winter School conference was held on the Gold Coast at the beginning of June, and now a range of the papers presented are available online. Some of the available presentations include Dovetail's own Jeff Buckley and the Hot House's John Kelly presenting on "Engaging Young People: What Works?", Dr Jeremy Hayllar presenting on "Complexity: Case conceptualisation and intervention" and Dr Leanne Hides presenting on "Engaging and treating clients using technology".

The Self Help Addiction Resource Centre and the Association of Participating Service Users have recently published a resource which will be useful for many services in Queensland. "The Peer Model Manual: Consumer Participation in Action" is a training manual designed for people who have personal experience of alcohol and other drug concerns who would like to effectively contribute to the development and improvement of the alcohol and other drug sector. The manual covers three programs including "The Peer Helper Training", "Experts by Experience" and "The Speaker Bureau". This resource will be very helpful for any agency that wants to improve its consumer participation practices.

Dovetail is very excited to announce the launch of our Consortium partner Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS) "A Resource for Strengthening Therapeutic Practice Frameworks in Youth Alcohol and Other Drug Services". This document provides a detailed overview of evidence-informed youth AOD interventions, providing workers with a framework for "Resilience Based Intervention". Workers who attended the recent Dovetail Summit will have seen Andrew Bruun presenting on this innovative approach to case work around AOD use and young people, and now the full guide is available for workers around the country.

Children's Health Service's Child and Youth Mental Health Service are running a full day workshop on Thursday April 26th, designed to assist workers who are engaging with families affected by parental dual diagnosis. The training workshop provides an overview of the prevalence and impact of parental dual diagnosis, as well as enhancing the skills of workers to effectively work with affected families.

Dovetail is hosting its inaugural Summit on Thursday 29th and Friday the 30th of March in Brisbane. Frontline practitioners, managers, policy, research and government representatives from across the state will be discussing key youth alcohol and drug use issues and identifying an action plan for the future.
