YOUNG PEOPLE, ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS IN THE 2011 BUDGET
The 2011 Federal Budget contains a number of items of interest
to workers dealing with young people experiencing problematic
alcohol and other drug use. Here's a quick summary of some of the
big ticket items.
- $4.7 million to assist long term unemployed people including
those experiencing AOD dependence, mental health concerns and / or
homelessness
- $141.6 million over 4 years to expand the Early Psychosis
Prevention and Intervention Centres
- $132.3 million over 4 years for youth mental health early
internvetion through Headspace, bringing on board 30 new Headspace
centres across Austraila
- $61 million over 5 years for Family Mental Health support
services which will operate alongside the existing Family
Relationship Centres, and provide early intervention for young
people at risk of developing mental health problems
- $53.6 million over four years for the establishment of the
"Austarlian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission" (ACNC), which
will provide oversight for the not-for-profit sector
