The Lives of Substance website aims to provide information people's' lived experience of alcohol and other drug problems. It is designed to provide members of the public with clear information on key terminology such as "addiction" or "dependence", and utilises actors and voice recordings of people to illustrate some of the real experiences of people who have problems with their substance use. There are stories about a wide range of substances, as well as experiences by age and gender. Personal stories of real people can help to de-mystify and de-stigmatise substance use problems, and Lives of Substance is a valuable resource for workers who want to better understand the wide variety of experiences of substance use problems.
