TARGET AUDIENCE

Any worker who engages with young people in a one-to-one capacity. This includes youth workers, child safety officers, youth justice officers, out-of-home residential and youth housing workers, school-based health and wellbeing staff, Indigenous health workers, and employment and vocational staff.

Note: Specialist AOD, mental health / CYMHS, and Social and Emotional Wellbeing workers are advised to skip this introductory module and complete Insight's Level 1 and 2 modules, including our Dovetail 'Working with young people' eLearning course.

Note: If you do not work primarily with young people, we recommend completing our 'AOD crash course' eLearning module, where many of the same (or overlapping) introductory concepts and practice principles are covered.

MODULE AIMTo equip any youth focussed worker with an introductory understanding of young people and alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and effective ways to respond.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • describe AOD use in the context of young people and what problematic AOD use looks like
  • identify ways to communicate and respond effectively to young people who use AOD
  • access resources that assist in implementing improved responses to young people who use AOD, including AOD treatment referral options.
